Obituary – Mavis Christine Perry

Mavis Christine Perry, 87, of Kilmichael, MS, passed away on April 24, 2014 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS.
She was born in Grenada County, MS, on March 15, 1927. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Church of God.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Robert) Warren- Kilmichael, MS; grandchildren, Kenny Palmertree, Byron Palmertree, Shaun Palmertree, Rob Warren, Jeff Warren; great-granchildren, Amanda Palmertree, Dustin Palmertree, Kristian Palmertree, Tristian Palmertree, Damion Palmertree, Haley Palmertree, Megan Warren, Vance Smith, Bryanna Warren, Christopher Edwards; great-great-grandchildren, Aden Cash Linville, Kaden Edwards, Casandra Edwards, Michael Blaine Warren, Vivian Warren; foster children, Hank Williams, Mae Dean Williams, Audrey Williams, Shelia Williams, Jennifer Williams; and a host of foster grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Perry; her parents Mack & Stella Key Williams; and her brothers. David, Elmer, Hearvy, and Emmit Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethany Church of God.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 28, 2014, at 11:00 am at Bethany Church of God in Poplar Creek. Burial followed at Bethany Cemetery. Visitation was held at Bethany Church of God on Sunday, April 27, 2014, from 5pm until 8pm. Bro. Duram “Buster” Palmertree officated.
Pallbearers were Christopher Edwards, Kristian Palmertree, Damion Palmertree, Tristian Palmertree, Camden Green, and Royce Wyle, Jr.

Services for Rupert Calvin Watson Jr., 91, of Amory are 11 a.m. May 1, 2014, at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. A graveside committal will follow at 3 p.m. at the Eupora City Cemetery with military honors.
He was born June 4, 1922, in Webster County to the late Rupert Calvin Sr. and Letha Elvy Morris Watson. Mr. Watson was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, an Army Air Corp veteran of the Korean War and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, retiring as chief master sergeant in 1974. He served as an alderman for the town of Hatley and was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon. Mr. Watson died April 27, 2014, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus.
Survivors include a son, Tom Watson of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Maurine Vail of Tupelo and Doris Weeks of Jackson; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Frank Owen, Don Vail, Jimmy Vail, Joey Watson, Sam Watson and Tommy Watson.

Patsy Nell Smith, 64, of Eupora, MS, passed away on April 25, 2014, at her residence in Eupora. She was born in Detroit, MI, on February 13, 1950.
She was a cosmetologist at Patsy’s Little McCain, and a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary #556 in Ackerman, MS, and was a member of DAV.
She is survived by her husband Roy Smith of Eupora; her sons: Russell (Melinda) Brown – St. Amant, LA; Kerry (Judy) Brown – Eupora; James (Linsey) Anthony- St. Amant; Paul (Shelly) Anthony – St. Amant, LA; Frank Martin, Jr. – St. Amant, LA; Clint Smith – Clarkson, MS; Cass (Stephanie) Smith – Maben, MS; her daughters: Cyndi (Scottie) George – Eupora, MS; Shonda Smith – Mathiston, MS; Danita (Mark) Williams- Eupora; her brothers: Jimmie Lyles (Lynn) – Mathiston; Robert Lyles – West Memphis, AR; Dewey (Toria) Lyles- West Monroe, LA; Danny Ray (Pam) Lyles- Byhalia, MS; her sisters: Carol Jo Brewer –Walls, MS; Gloria Lyles – Memphis, TN; her grandchildren: Justin, Brandi, Kelli, Buddy, Cody, Bobby, Stephanie, Marie, Anthony, Darrel, Piper, John Paul, Dustin, Jazz, Jake, Cassidy, Clayton; and great-grandchildren: Jax, Daylen, Dayten, Bree, and Cayson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clanton Lyles and Jessie Walters Duncan.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, 11:00AM at Apostolic Lighthouse of Truth. Burial followed in Webster Memorial Gardens. Visitation was Monday 5PM – 8PM at the Funeral Home. Bro. Kevin Hitt, Bro. Dallas Marcum, and Bro. James Fason officiated.

DoddFuneral Services for David L. Dodd, age 50 of Picayune, MS, who passed away in his home on Thursday, April 24, 2014, were held Sunday, April 27, 2014, at 3:00 pm at McDonald Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation was Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at McDonald Funeral Home.
Burial was in New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.
Pastor Jessie Ladner officiated the service.
A native of Eupora, MS, he was employed by Roy Anderson Corporation for 14 years, and attended Resurrection Life Worship Center. David had an Honorable Discharge from the MS National Guard. He was transferred with Roy Anderson Corp to Picayune as a Chief Field Engineer, where he did the field layout for the construction of Highland Community Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Claudia Green Dodd.
Survivors include: his wife, Mona Lisa Ladner Dodd; his daughter, Marleigh Grace Dodd,; his step son, Josh Mars; his step daughters, Jennifer Mars Lindell, Jessica Alisa Mars, and Jana Mars Amacker; his father, Wesley Louie Dodd; 13 step grandchildren; his brothers, Dwayne Dodd, Marcus Dodd; his sister, Tammy Dodd Downer; and his very close cousin, Marty Green.

Charles “Buddy” Pittman, Sr., 72, of Walthall, MS, passed away on May 2, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center Eupora. He was a retired owner of D&B Auto Parts in Eupora, and a member of Walthall Baptist Church.
Mr. Pittman was a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he was a Dean’s List scholar. He was a

member of Adelphian Lodge in Bellefontaine, a 32nd degree Master Mason, a Shriner, and a Gideon. He traveled and spoke in multiple churches and jails until his health failed.
He is survived by his wife, Ola Pittman of Walthall; his sons, Charles “Little Buddy” Pittman, Jr., Danny Ditta of Starkville, Kaine Pittman of Walthall, and Bobby Robertson of Slate Springs, MS; his daughters, Cindy Pittman of Starkville, Shirley (Jerry) Holliday of Tillatoba, MS, Shelby (Joncy) Muselwhite of Coffeeville, MS; his brothers, Hugh (Betty) Elkins of Haleyville, AL, Robert Pittman of Eupora, Duwayne (Flo) Pittman of Crossett, AR; his sister Sherry (Dan) Moreland of Starkville; thirteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Harrison and Christine Morgan Pittman; his brothers, Johnnie Elkins, James Elkins, Jerry Elkins, and M. H. Pittman; his son Rickey Robertson; and granddaughters, Jennifer Lennard and Marie Smith.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Wise-Reed Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation was Monday, May, 2014, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial followed the service at North Union Cemetery. Bro. Willy Weddle officiated.
Pallbearers were Jeff Robertson, Jerry Holliday, Lee Kendricks, Mathew Pittman, Chance Pittman, Mike Elkins, Steve Elkins, and Frank Tharp. James Robert Skelton served as honorary pallbearer.

Jerry Milton Atkins, 83, passed away on May 4, 2014 at his residence in Maben, MS. He was retired from Babcock and Wilcox as a Welding Specialist, where he worked for 41 years and a member of Maben Methodist Church. He was an usher for Mississippi State University ballgames for the Shriners. He was a

Master Mason, Shriner, and member of the Eastern Star, and the Chaplain for Boilermaker Union Local 903.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Atkins and Hattie Turner Atkins; and granddaughter, Susan Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Rena Vaughn Atkins of Maben, MS; daughters, Debbie Johnson Nolan of Mathiston, MS, Wanda Atkins Stafford (Robert) of Warner Robins, GA, and Tammy K. Atkins of Maben, MS; sons, Jerry Wayne Atkins (JoAnn), and Barry M. Atkins, all of Mathiston, MS; sister, Mary Nell Willie of Chicago, IL; brother, Lee Roy Atkins of West Point, MS; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Atkins was held Monday, May 5, 2014 from 6:30-9:00 at Welch Funeral Home in Maben, MS. The funeral service was held Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Maben United Methodist Church. Rev. J. R. Eaton and Rev. Scarlett Sheppherd conducted the service. Burial was in Maben Memorial Gardens.

He was born

Feb. 13, 1939, in Chickasaw County to the late Alton Granville and Mary Wofford Womack. Mr. Womack retired from Spartus Corp. in Louisville and was a member of Hohenlinden Baptist Church. He died April 29, 2014, at his
home.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Silvia” Skelton Womack of Mantee; two sons, Kent Womack of New Orleans and Lee Womack of Mantee; a sister, Jacque McQuary of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Billy Jeff Abbott, Eddie Abbott, Mike Callahan, Cody Edmondson, Joe Edmondson, Trent Edmondson, Jay Russell, Mitchell Russell and Michael Sullivan.

his wife, Ella Williams of Eupora; Sons Richard Lee (Lisa) Moore of Stewart, Joe Anthony Moore of Eupora, Donnie Ray (Carrie) Moore of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; daughters Sandra Chandler of Eupora, Lisa Chandler of Stewart; brother H. O. (Carolyn) Moore of Enid; seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Thresa Moore; a brother, Jack Moore; and a sister, Mildred Stoddard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Wise-Reed Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in North Union Cemetery. Bro. Billy Michael Trull officiated. Visitation was Friday, May 2, 2014, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Mary Evelyn Hurst Weems, age 86, passed away Wednesday April 30, 2014 at her home in West Point surrounded by her family. She was born May 2, 1927 in Mantee, MS.
She was preceded in death by

her husband, Charlie C. Weems; son-in-law Pete Cook; parents, George Barnett & Laura Stringfellow Hurst; sisters Norris & Gertrude Norris; brothers Grover Hurst, Pete Hurst, Jimmy Hurst, Wade Hurst, Hamp Hurst and George Hurst.
Mrs. Weems is survived by: Daughter, Nancy Cook of West Point; son, Danny Weems and wife Ann of Morton, MS; grandchildren Brian Cook of West Point, Chris Weems of Morton, MS and Kimberly Weems of Morton, MS also great-granddaughter Kaley Grace Weems of Clinton, MS. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Lena Hurst of West Point and Norma Hurst of Tupelo; and brother-in-law Ivy Weems of West Point.
Mrs. Weems was a Christian by faith. She loved gardening, home making, and taking care of her family. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were the joy of her life.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Amy and Angela of North MS Home Health and Hospice of Tupelo for their love, care and concern that they showed to Mrs. Mary.
Funeral services were held Friday April 2, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church in West Point, Ms. Visitation was at the church from 1:00pm until 2:00pm prior to the funeral. Graveside services followed at Memorial Gardens in West Point. Pallbearers were Johnny Vandiver, Sammy Norris, Tommy Bryan, J.P. Winters, Phillip Booth, Billy Vest, and Tommy Norris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brian Cook, Chris Weems, Dr. Duke Wood, Dr. Andrew Wartock, Steven Moore, and Lewis Johnson.

She is also survived by her great great nephews Jacob Benjamin Bailey and Joshua Brayden Bailey and a great great niece McKenzie Noel Bailey. She is also survived by two special friends Michael Moore of Oxford and Rita McCaslin of Jackson Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Coy Easley, her son William Keith “Rusty Mac” Fulce, her grandson Seth Adam Fulce, her parents and a sister Jo McGarr. Funeral Services were held 2:00PM Saturday, May 10th. 2014 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Webster Memorial Garden Cemetery. Rev. Dan Rupert officiated. william lottWilliam Jeffrey Lott, 51, passed away on May 4, 2014, in Daytona Beach, FL, after an illness in the hospital.
Mr. Lott was born on November 3, 1962, in Greenville, MS. He was raised partly in Cleveland, MS and partly in Levelland, TX. He was a Delta State University graduate and a computer programmer, residing in Midlothian, TX, then later in Del Tona, FL. Mr. Lott loved building miniature railroads, flying RC airplanes, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by two ex-wives; his father Charles Edward Lott, Sr. of Maben; brothers Charles Edward Lott, Jr. and Gary Randall Lott, both of Maben; sister Beth Allison Lott Faulkner of Eupora; nephews John, James, and Matthew Faulkner; nieces Jennifer and Stephanie Lott, and Amy and Robyn Lott; and grandniece Lorelei Faulkner.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia June Hancock-Lott.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Shiloh Cemetery in Vaiden, MS. Brother Ron Linkins officiated.

Graveside services for Glenda Ann Sisson, 70, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., were May 18, 2014, at North Union Cemetery in Bellefontaine.
She was born in Maben to the late Orin Grady and Erin Taylor Gaskin Sisson. She grew up in Eupora and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Eupora. Ms. Sisson was retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation. She died March 15, 2014, at her home.
Survivors include her daughter, Anna Celeste Menendez of  Daytona Beach, Fla.; a sister, Virginia Sisson Bean of Jackson, Tenn.; a brother, Thomas Gene Sisson of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Jane Weeks, 91, of Front Royal, Va., passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Lynn Care Center, Front Royal Va.
A funeral service was held on Friday May 16th. at the First Baptist Church at 11:00AM, conducted by The Rev. Dr. R. Mark Jordan.
Mrs. Weeks was born in Stephens City, the daughter of the late Milton and Julia Deavers Orndorff. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack E. Weeks. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant for area hospitals and nursing homes.
She is survived by a son; Gene Weeks of Frederick, Md., two daughters Lorrie Ellen Pace of Falls Church, Va., and Lorraine Gay Burchfield of Deltona, Fl., two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A funeral and graveside service was held 11:00AM Monday May 19th. at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Choctaw County Ms. Rev. Ralph Cain officiated. Pallbearers were’ Marvin Weeks, Bobby Perkins, Wesley Murphy, William Arnold and Danny Burchfield.

Annice J. Vickers, 83, was born in the Fame Community, Eupora, MS, on May 16, 1930, and passed away at home on December 28, 2013. A memorial service was held May 24, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Lafayette and Kate (Harpole) Vickers, along with 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Annice is survived by her brother, James “Jimmy” Vickers of Eupora, MS, and two sisters Maggie “Vickie” E. (Vickers) Winter of Green Valley, AZ and Iris J. (Vickers) Bryant of Mobile, AL, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Annice worked for South Central Bell for several years and was a distributor for Shaklee Products. She enjoyed working in her yard, being in her sewing club, and spending time with family and friends. She loved children and animals.
The family of Annice Vickers wishes to thank friends and relatives during her illness and death.

She is survived by her husband; Barry Gregg, Calhoun City, Ms., mother; Sarah Baker, Eupora, Ms., son; Aaron (Sarah) Crutchfield, Eupora, Ms., step-sons; Barry Lee Gregg, Jr., Hinesville, Ga. and James Brandon Gregg, Eupora, Ms., sisters; Gloria Ann Baker, Eupora, Ms. and Linda Duvall, Eupora, Ms., brothers; Earl Baker, Eupora, Ms. and Wayne Baker, Eupora, Ms., and grandson; Caleb Lee Gregg. She was preceded in death by sons; Derick Haywood Crutchfield and Jacob Allen Crutchfield. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora Ms. was in charge of all arrangements.

Funeral services for Ms. Ella Bright Staples, 100, were held at Concord Baptist Church on Sunday, June 1 2014 at 2 p.m. Rev. Roger Griffith officiated.
A native of Choctaw County, Ms. Staples was a retired teacher. Ms. Staples was a

member of Concord Baptist Church. Ms. Staples died on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Choctaw County Nursing Center in Ackerman.
Survivors include son, Thomas Staples of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter, Kay Taylor of Jackson; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.
Family suggests memorials to Broken Wings Ministry of Choctaw County.
Coleman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Services for James Franklin Hooper, 74, of Mathiston were May 31, 2014, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with Pastor Don Hooper and the Rev. Michael Mann officiating. Burial was in Clarkson Cemetery.
Mr. Hooper, a retired Inspector with Babcock and Wilcox Manufacturing, was a member of the Church of God and was an Army veteran. He died May 27, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Vance Hooper of Mathiston; a daughter, Renae Hooper of Athens, Ala.; two sons, Pastor Don Hooper of Hattiesburg and Jason Hooper of Brandon; a sister, Martha Nell Hall of Mathiston; and three brothers, Hugh Hooper, John Edd Hooper and Thomas Everett Hooper of Mathiston.
Pallbearers were Cecil Hooper, John Hooper, Randy Hooper, Jerry McClain, Craig Williams and Dillon Williams.
