Services for Opal Baldwin, 91, of Eupora were Dec. 29, 2013, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Rev. Travis Gray officiating. Burial was in Old Cumberland Cemetery.

Mrs. Baldwin was a retired licensed vocational nurse. She died Dec. 26, 2013, at Golden Living Center-Eupora.

Survivors include three sons, Edmond Shumpert of Eupora, Douglas Shumpert of Oxnard, Calif., and Bruce Hankins of Starkville; two sisters, Yolanda Butler of Eupora and Thomasine Novak of Nevada; a brother, Bill Hays, Eureka Springs, Ark.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services for Jimmie Dell Box, 75, of Eupora were Jan. 3, 2014, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Revs. J.B. Rowe and Don Parrish officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mrs. Box was a retired seamstress and homemaker, and a member of Tomnolen Baptist Church. She died Dec. 31, 2013, at Golden Living Center-Eupora.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Box of Eupora and Mark Box of Stewart; two sisters, Bobbie Nell Sorrow and Francis Coker of McComb; a brother, Buddy Leonard of McComb; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Christopher Box, J.R. Clay, Butch Duvall, Terry McCain, Roger Miller and Richard Pittman.

Services for James Leslie Kelly, Jr., 59, were Dec. 31, 2013, at Maben Church of God with the Revs. James Earl Kelly and Bro. Guy McGarrity officiating. Burial was in Maben Memorial Garden.

Born in Red Bay, Ala., Mr. Kelly was a retired sales representative, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Winona Church of God. He died Dec. 27, 2013, at his home in Winona.

Survivors include five sons, Les Warren Kelly of Clinton, Jason Correll Kelly and Nickalos James Kelly of Grenada, James Eric Kelly of Canton and Karsten Kyle Kelly of Winona; three sisters, Mary Garrard and Nan Amason of Greenwood, and Ann Wilkes of Toccoa, Ga.; a brother, James Earl Kelly of Greenwood; and five grandchildren.

She was born Jan. 10, 1929, in Choctaw County. Mrs. Long was retired from the Mississippi Employment Service and a member of Ackerman United Methodist Church. She died Jan. 5, 2014, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.

Survivors include a son, Joey Long of Ackerman; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Billy Joe Box

Services for Billy Joe Box, 76, of Ackerman were Jan. 22, 1014, at Chester Baptist Church with the Revs. Rob Faulk and Stan Ballard officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born Sept. 21, 1937, in Choctaw County to the late Herman and Earline Box. Mr. Box was a retired furniture manufacturing supervisor, served 23 years as a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard and was a member of Chester Baptist Church. He died Jan. 18, 2014, at University Medical Center in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Box of Ackerman; a son, Billy Mark Box of Franklin, Tenn.; a daughter, Teresa Shumaker of Ackerman; four sisters, Debbie Gammill and Freda Jones of Ackerman, Sandra Putman of Tupelo and Patsy Reed of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Anthony Box of Pearl and Larry Box of Fredericksburg, Va.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services for Julia Anne Putman Doss, 72, of Charleston were Jan. 18, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Charleston, where she was a member, with the Revs. Gary Adams and John Price officiating. Burial was in Old Bethany Cemetery at Slate Springs.

Born March 21, 1941, in Choctaw County, she was the daughter of the late John Harvey Putman Sr. and Susan Vera Bright Putman. Mrs. Doss was a beautician. She died of lung cancer Jan. 15, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Earl Doss; a daughter, Joy Doss Vance of Charleston; a son Nathan Earl Doss of Mount Laurel, N.J.; three sisters, Carolyn Ruth McCoskey of Monticello, Glenda Douglas of Littleton, Colo., and Kathy Neal of Houston; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Ray was born in Montgomery County to the late William and Georgia Kite Williams. She worked at Golden LivingCenter-Eupora for 20 years as a licensed practical nurse. Mrs. Ray was a member of Crape Creek Baptist Church near Stewart. She died Jan. 19, 2014, at Golden LivingCenter-Eupora from complications of cancer.

Survivors include her husband, Burt Ray of French Camp; a son, Michael Ray of French Camp; a sister, Sara Williams Latham of Kilmichael; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Herschel Braswell, Jerry Dale Bridges, Jerry Crowder, Brad Latham, Jeff Latham and Ralph Leonard.

Services for Troy W. Tucker, 60, of Stewart were Jan. 15, 2014, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Rev. Larry Woodrick officiating. Burial was in Milligan Springs Cemetery in Montgomery County.

Mr. Tucker was a truck driver. He died Jan. 13, 2014, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Woodrick Tucker of Stewart; a daughter; Janet Tucker Hamilton of Tupelo; a son, Troy J. Tucker of Stewart; three sisters, Barbara Turner of Greenville, Margaret Edwards of Clinton and Sylvia Box of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; and four grandchildren.

‘Bill’ Gary

Services for Floyd William “Bill” Gary, 65, of Eupora were Jan. 29, 2014, at First United Methodist Church of Eupora with the Rev. Trey Harper officiating. Burial was in Eupora City Cemetery.

He was born March 17, 1948, in Greenwood to the late Floyd William Gary Sr. and Mildred Gary. Mr. Gary was a retired oil field worker and member of First United Methodist Church of Eupora, where he also was a former teacher of the Carroll Sunday School Class. He died Jan. 26, 2014, at NMMC Hospice in Tupelo.

Survivors include a brother, Charles Saunders of Eupora.

She was born March 10, 1930, in North Carolina. Mrs. Howell was a retired registered nurse and of the Baptist faith. She died Jan. 21, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Survivors include a son, Charles Warren of Brandon; a brother, Ray Keever of Statesville, N.C.; a sister, Ruth Reid of Taylorsville, N.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was born Jan. 29, 1951, in Attala County to Mae and the late Red King. Mr. King was a pipeliner and member of Moss Baptist Church. He died Jan. 22, 2014, at his residence.

Survivors include a son, Jim King of New Zealand; two daughters, Stacee Giers of Boca Raton, Fla., and Bridgette Peacock of Laurel; two brothers, Mike King and Rusty King of Ackerman; a sister, Pam Simpson of Ackerman; his mother, Mae Perry King of Ackerman; and four grandchildren.

Services for Betty McMullen Little, 85, of Atlanta were Jan. 25, 2014, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Rev. Willy Weddle officiating. Burial was in Eupora City Cemetery.

Mrs. Little was a retired Social Security Administration claims representative. She died Jan. 20, 2014, at the Budd Terrace at Wesley Woods Retirement Center in Atlanta.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Little of Atlanta; and a sister, Rachel Rawson of Meridian.

 

Gerald M. Nason Sr.

Services for Gerald M. Nason Sr., 77, of Sturgis were Jan. 24, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Church with the Revs. Tri Nason and Bruce Lattimer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born June 11, 1936, in Sturgis to the late John Draper and Gussie Weaver Nason. A retired carpenter, Mr. Nason was a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church and veteran of the U.S. Army. He died Jan. 21, 2014, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.

Survivors include a son, Buster Nason of Sturgis; two daughters, Lyn McClelland and Gina Compton of Sturgis; five sisters, Theople Hurst and Bobbie Magee of Kentwood, La., Vitula Edmonds of Starkville, Annette Allen of Florida and Patsy Wilson of Madison; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was born July 21, 1935, to the late Gus and Janie Hightower Kilpatrick. Mrs. Marshall attended Webster County Training School and was a member of Gibson Street Church of God, where she served in numerous positions. She died Jan. 18, 2014, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, George Samuel Marshall of Eupora; four daughters, Margaret L. Marshall of Denver, Katherine A. Brown of Mayfield, Ky., Laura A. Marshall of Eupora and Ava LaShea Marshall of Riverdale, Ga.; two sons, George Derek Marshall of Denver and Stanley C. Marshall of Fayetteville, Ga.; eight sisters, Dorothy Kilpatrick and Lucille Jones of Grenada, Louise Terry and Linda Buckhalter of Winona, and Jeanette Moore, Alice Caffey, Shirley Booker and Maxine Ringold of Duck Hill; a brother, Harvey Kilpatrick of Roselle, N.J..

Desiree Black Stacy

She was born to the late J.M. and Mary Vaughn Black in Choctaw County on Oct. 29, 1915, and lived there her entire life. She worked at Irwin Manufacturing Co. for several years and was a housewife. She died Jan. 22, 2014.

Survivors include three sons, Terry Stacy of Ackerman, James Durward Stacy of New Albany and Barry Stacy of Springfield, Mo.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was born Nov. 12, 1919, in Choctaw County to the late Silas M. and Nannie Bell Gammill Dobbs. Mrs. Cornish was an executive secretary and member of Ackerman Baptist Church.

She died Jan. 29, 2014, at Choctaw County Nursing Center in Ackerman.

Survivors include a son, Buddy Cornish of Ackerman; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

David Jones Jr.

Services for David Jones, Jr., 67, were Feb. 5, 2014, at Second Baptist Church of Oxford with Pastor Andrew Robinson Sr. officiating. Burial was in the Veterans Garden of the Garden of Memories located at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford.

Born in Eupora to the late David and Mary Jones, he retired as an engineer with AT&T after 42 years of employment in Aberdeen and Oxford. Mr. Jones was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam, and was a member at Second Baptist Church of Oxford. He died Jan. 30, 2014, at his home near Oxford.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie K. Jones of Oxford; four sons, David Jones III, Dennis Ramont Jones and Anthony DeWayne Jones of Oxford, and Timothy Matthew Jones of Ellenwood, Ga.; a sister, Annie Louise Johnson of Oxford; a brother, James Jones of St. Louis; and 11 grandchildren.

He was born Nov. 13, 1937, I Mantee to the late James Rodney and Malinda Kilgore. Mr. Kilgore was disabled. He died Jan. 23, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Survivors include three brothers, George C. Kilgore and Allen Kilgore of Mantee, and James Albert Kilgore of Millington, Tenn.; four sisters, Dories Joe Liningham of Sturgis, Pearlie Mae Wade of West Orange, N.J., Neil Ruth Hankins of Orange, N.J., and Mableine Lonon of East Orange, N.J..

Bobby Gene McClain

Services for Bobby Gene McClain, 82, of Maben were Jan. 31, 2014, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Rev. Tommy Temple officiating. Burial was in Blythe Creek Cemetery in Choctaw County.

Mr. McClain was a retired construction worker. He was an Army Ranger and member of the 82nd Airborne Division in the Korean War, serving from 1949-53. Mr. McClain was a member of Maben First Baptist Church. He died Jan. 25, 2014, at his residence in Maben.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Wright McClain of Maben; three daughters, Monica Miller of Phoenix, Donna Blair of West Point and Denise Reid of Columbus; three sons; Robert Wayne McClain and Doug Pettit of Maben, Lee Pettit of Steens; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Aubrey Blair, Brandon Blair, Danny Johnson, Mike McConnell, Andy Pettit, Doug Pettit, Gene Reed, John Paul Waits and David Wright.

Services for Martha Frances Newman, 69, of Eupora were Feb. 1, 2014, in Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery, Enid.

Mrs. Newman was born to the late Thomas Everett and Annie Estell Burk Mehan on July 17, 1944, in Panola County. A homemaker, she was a 1962 graduate of Pope High School. She died Jan. 29, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Survivors include her husband, James Charles “Butch” Newman Jr. of Eupora; four sons, Robert D. Newman of Tennessee, James C. Newman III of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Thomas E. Newman of Norfolk, Va., and Michael Newman of Ackerman; and nine grandchildren.

Daughter of the late James Floyd and Nora Lee Hood Moore, she was originally from Lodi and then Eupora but spent most of her life in Grenada. Mrs. Owens was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She died Jan. 28, 2014.

Survivors include a daughter, Lydia Gary Duke of Suffolk, Va.; a son, Hollis Michael Gary of Eupora; two stepdaughters, Ann Owens McKnett and Brenda Owens Williams; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren,

He was born Sept. 21, 1959, in Grenada. Mr. England was a truck driver and a Baptist. He died Feb. 15, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Survivors include a son, Amos England of Ocean Springs; his mother, Billie McCulloch of Eupora; his father, James Travis England of Grenada; and three brothers, Ryan Taylor England and Jerry Barton of Southaven, and Ricky McCulloch of Eupora.

Mr. McMillian died Feb. 8, 2014.

Billy John Hendrix, 74, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at his niece’s home in Oxford. He was born October 28, 1939, to James Walter Hendrix and Gladys Holmes Hendrix. He was married to Peggy Lewis Hendrix, who preceded him in death. He worked for Futorian Furniture in Okolona for forty years.

Services will be at 3:00 pm Thursday, 2/27/14 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with Bro. Dan Wright officiating. Burial will follow in White Hill Cemetery in Webster County. Visitation will be 2/27/14 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the funeral home.

Survivors include: 1 sister, Bonnie Hendrix Chandler (Billy) of Oxford, 1 sister in law, Billie Riley Hendrix of Houlka, 3 nephews and 3 nieces and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Lewis Hendrix, his parents, James and Gladys Hendrix, and one brother, James Hendrix, Jr.

Services for Casey O. Helms, 75, were Feb. 21, 2014, at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with the Rev. Willy Weddle officiating. Burial was in Spring Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Mathiston.

A retired electrician and painter, Mr. Helms was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lecompte, La., and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He died Feb. 18, 2014, at his residence in Maben.

Survivors include four sons, Derrell Helms and David Helms of Starkville, Wayne Helms of Dallas and Trent Helms of Maben; three sisters, Jean Pogue of Eupora, Nell Willcutt of Montgomery, Ala., and Patsy Methvin of Lufkin, Texas; two brothers, Louis Helms and Jerry Helms of Mathiston; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A retired shipping clerk with Wells Lamont Manufacturing Co., Mr. Crimm was a member of McCurtains Creek Baptist Church in Choctaw County. He died March 4, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Mitchell Crimm of Eupora; a daughter, Jo Wade of Weir; a son, Jerry Cooper Crimm; a sister, Ardelia “Sis” Crimm; a brother, Calvin Crimm, all of Eupora; six grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
